Fine Art

Fine art is art that is created for no other purpose then to be beautiful. It is not created to be functional at all. It serves no purpose other than aesthetic usually paintings, drawings, sculpture, or theater.

Historically, the five main fine arts were painting, sculpture, architecture, music and poetry, with performing arts including theater and dance. Today, the fine arts commonly include additional forms, such as film, photography, conceptual art, printmaking and scratchboard art.

One of the most exciting emerging artists, Robert Tiritilli won 1st PLACE in the drawing category at the SIXTH ANNUAL LA JOLLA ART & WINE FESTIVAL (LJAWF). Scratchboard Art and Pen & Ink

by Award Winning Artist

 Robert Tiritilli

Scratchboard is a medium that is over 100 years old, but has usually been used as a commercial art and illustrating medium. With the addition of color 30+ years ago and the development of a "new" scratchboard that has a rigid subsurface, it has made its way into the Fine Art category. It is now accepted in Museum shows all over the world and enjoys experimentation by many artists in varying techniques.

Though the term was not in use until the 1950s, the origin of the artistic practice dates to the early 20th century avant garde movements that sought to challenge traditional artistic media. Here are some famous artists who worked with Scratchboard Art: Virgil Finlay, Ruth Lozner, Paul Sheldon, Sally Maxwell, Kent Barton and Rudy Draguett.
